Rapunzel's Gold, Jack's Seeds and The Prince's Flower
65Jack's Seeds
The Word
It was the half life between waiting and goodbye
I met you there
You seemed immune to it
But inside, I knew you were there too
I gave you my name and you gave me yours
I told you my secret story
And you listened
I called down Rapunzel's gold
I showed you Jack's seeds
I gave you the Prince's flower
I sang a song I had never sung to anyone before
I didn't really know why
I warned you that it was the Siren's song
I had heard in my dreams
I gave you the chance to walk away
Before it was done
You could have then
Before the genie was out of the bottle and the wishes were yours
But you were in the half-life yourself
And you made your choice
I spoke as if there was nothing you could do about it
But in the speaking there remained
A word that was missing
And the charm would not work without it
The enchantment would not stay
The spell would break
The word was a small one and easily added
Except it would only work if spoken by you
You knew
And out of the greyness of that world you had begun to call home
You spoke the word
I have often thought carelessly that things would perhaps
Have been the same without it
But the Fairies laugh when I do
The green trees in the enchanted glen join in
A Satyr plays his pipe with the laugh in his eyes
The Unicorn shakes her head
They all know
Their birth, their re-birth
Was in that instant
When the greyness died and the rainbow shined
And a young man took your hand
As you said the secret magic that unlocked the fairy tale
"Yes"

The Prince's Flower
"You are beautiful, but you are empty," he went on. "One could not die
for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose
looked just like you - the rose that belongs to me. But in herself
alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses:
because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have
put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered
behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the
caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become
butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she
grumbled, or boasted, or ever sometimes when she said nothing. Because
she is my rose." ~ Antoine de Saint Exupery "The Little Prince"

I fell for this one... absolutely beautiful! I'm going to link this to one of my hubs on fairytales, do you mind? Meanwhile, keep writing such lyrical poems....:)
On Winsome, this is beautiful. I was drawn by Rapunzel, one of my favourite fairy stories and then I found this poem too. I love poetry, I'm going to bookmark this page, the images are wonderful as well. I'm so glad I found this!
Lovely words and thoughts - and the magic that unlocks the fairy tale is "Yes"! Yes to life, to lovem and to each other.
Love and peace

love Maxfield Parrish. i was just thinking Saturday how the sky looked like one of his painitngs...
Truly magical! From the Maxfield Parrish image, the Walter Crane illustration, the wonderful verse with the YES at the end to that much-loved passage from The Little Prince - you just took this reader back to the wonder of 'Once upon a time' to 'happily ever after'!
This is indeed that wonderful place between worlds! You have touched true beauty with this poem. Thank you for bringing your enchanted place to my attention. :)
You begin with Maxfield Parrish and finish with "The Little Prince"...I could have forgiven almost anything found in between.
But, no need...your poem is wonderful...flowing, romantic and touching.
The word "Yes" can be the most beautiful and powerful word spoken.
You gently unwrapped it and up like the treasure it is...like the treasure she is.
I will read this again and again just to savor the phasing and imagery.
Then I will read the passage from James Joyce..."yes...oh yes..."
Thanks for sharing.
